Herbert D. Friedman, Esq., is a highly regarded and nationally known adoption attorney with more than 25 years' experience in this area. He has helped Massachusetts families adopt over 900 children throughout the United States and internationally. His oldest son is adopted from Latin America. He has represented prospective adoptive families who reside both within the United States and elsewhere, in connection with Massachusetts adoption situations and procedures. He also represents prospective intended parents, egg donors and gestational carriers on assisted reproduction issues by, for example, drafting or reviewing applicable agreements, and petitioning the court for pre-birth orders for the intended parents. He also represents several highly regarded Massachusetts adoption agencies as well as birth parents. In addition, he is fluent in Spanish. In October, 2008, upon invitation by the government of Mexico, he made a presentation, in Spanish, on adoption in the United States at the First National Adoption Conference in Mazatlán, Mexico.
Herb received his B. A. from Cornell University, his Ph.D. in Management/Political Science from M.I.T., and his J. D. from Harvard Law School. He has a background in civil litigation practice and is Of Counsel to Rudolph Friedmann, LLP, a Boston firm of approximately 20 attorneys that provides excellent legal representation in a wide variety of civil, estate planning, and business matters. He uses his background as a trial attorney to guide parents through the complexities of the adoption and assisted reproduction process. His goal is to provide competent, compassionate, and comprehensive legal representation so that prospective parents become educated consumers, and are successful in their parentage quest.
Herb is a founding Fellow and board member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and has been active in adoption issues both in Massachusetts and nationally. He is a professional member of RESOLVE and is Co-President (2009-2010) of the Adoption Community of New England, Inc. (ACONE), a long standing New England wide adoption educational and advocacy organization. He is a frequent presenter on adoption programs and is the author of a chapter entitled "Adoption Representation and Litigation" in the book Adoption and Reproductive Technology Law in Massachusetts (MCLE 2000), as well as other articles. He was a presenter at the 2008 Annual Conference of the Association of Administrators of The Interstate Compact on The Placement of Children, whose members are the officials in each state legally authorized to approve interstate adoption placements. In September, 2008, he received an Angel in Adoption award from the Congressional Coalition Adoption Institute, Washington, D.C. to celebrate his contribution to the lives of children through adoption.
