Mission Statement

American College of Assisted Reproduction & Adoption Lawyers - ACARAL

The American College of Assisted Reproduction and Adoption Lawyers (ACARAL), a non-profit organization, was formed to share ideas, maintain ethical standards, and promote understanding in these constantly evolving areas of law.

The general admission criterion is that 100% of a member’s practice must be devoted to assisted reproduction and/or adoption. Most members have participated in at least 200 adoption matters (with 50 or more involving ICPC, Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children) and/or 200 third party reproductive arrangements or related contracts since the year 2007. These rigorous standards ensure that ACARAL members have the experience and knowledge to make a significant contribution to the group as well as to provide the highest quality service to clients. Since adoption and third party reproduction are interdisciplinary fields, leading IVF physicians, authors and journalists who have written on this topic, social workers and psychologists, as well as adoption advocates and prominent citizens whose lives have been touched by adoption, egg donation and surrogacy form ACARAL’s board of advisors.
